NHL Draft Underway

-Good to hear the Let's Go Oilers chant going on prior to the Oilers pick

-The speeches prior to each pick are the reason why the first round takes forever

-And Hall gets selected first overall by Edmonton. btw, Hall makes it four straight years that an OHL player is selected with the first pick

-And the Taylor vs. Tyler debate is officially over as the Bruins select Seguin

-Florida now up and the question is...do they take one of the 'Big 3' defensemen (Gudbranson, Gormley, or Fowler)?

-And the run on defensemen has started as Florida takes Gudbranson

-Columbus takes Portland forward Ryan Johansen while the Islanders use the next pick to take his teammate Nino Niederreiter

-The Lightning then use their pick to take Brett Connolly

The Hurricanes continue the run on forwards by taking Jeff Skinner of the Kitchener Rangers

-Alexander Burmistrov of the Barrie Colts is the newest member of the Atlanta Thrashers

-Quite the run on forwards as Minnesota takes Mikael Granlund 9th overall

-Pretty surprising that neither Gormley or Fowler have gone yet

-Surprised that the Rangers take Dylan McIlrath at 10 with Fowler and Gormley on the board still.

-The first American has been selected as the Stars take goaltender Jack Campbell

-And Fowler finally selected as he goes 12th to the Anaheim Ducks

-And Gormley goes with the next pick to Phoenix

-Jaden Schwartz goes to St. Louis

-Los Angeles trades up and selects defenseman Derek Forbort from the US Under-18 team

-St. Louis picks up the 16th pick form Ottawa and selects Russian forward Vladimir Tarasenko

-The Colorado Avalanche surprise a lot of people taking Owen Sound forward Joey Hishon

-Austin Watson selected by the Nashville Predators

-Florida back at it, selecting high school forward Nick Bjugstad

-Pittsburgh selects California-born forward Beau Bennett of Penticton of the BCHL

-The Detroit Red Wings go the college route and select Riley Sheahan of Notre Dame, nephew of Rocky DiPietro, formerly of the CFL's Hamilton Tiger Cats

-The Montreal Canadiens trade up and select Jarred Tinordi, son of former NHL'er Mark

-Mark Pysyk is selected by Buffalo at 23 while the Chicago Blackhawks select forward Kevin Hayes with the following pick

-Quinton Howden of the Moose Jaw Warriors is selected by Florida with their third pick of the first round

-Evgeny Kuznetsov is selected by the Washington Capitals 26th overall

-Phoenix goes off the board and selects Niagara IceDogs goaltender Mark Visentin

-The San Jose Sharks select forward Charlie Coyle

-Good on the Ducks for taking Emerson Etem, the California kid

-Final pick of the opening round goes to the Chicago Blackhawks. The Hawks proceed to deal the pick to the Islanders for a pair of second rounders. The Islanders select US High schooler Brock Nelson
