After a long time away from here for various reasons now is as good a time as any to get back into the swing of thingsand start posting on here more often.
It's definitely a great time of year if you follow junior and college hockey or rospects in general. The World Juniors kick off in Saskatchewan this week and the World UNder-17 tournament opens on Dec. 28 in Timmins, Ontario.
A few thoughts form the first half of the Ontario Hockey League season:
-It's amazing the difference a summer made for the Belleville Bulls. After two trips to the Eastrn Conference final and a Memorial Cu appearance, it looks as though the Bulls could find themselves missing the playoffs this season;
-The Barrie Colts have been outstanding all season. With the season the WIndsor Spitfires hacve had, the Colts have seen a little less of the limelight. Great seasons from Luke Pither and Bryan Cameron along with holdovers life Stefan Della Rovere and Alex Hutchings have been key. Add in the acquisitions of T.J. Brodie and Nick Crawford from Saginaw and Matt Kennedy from Guelph and this is a scary roster to contend with in the Eastern Conference;
-Speaking of the Spitfires, the depth of their roster is unreal. Hopefully Troy Passingham can hold up between the pipes. Bear in mind Andrew Engelage was not exected to be the answer last year in goal and we all know how that turned out for the Spitfires.
-How much of a feel-good story is the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds? A team written off by a lot of people before the season started has been battling for home ice through the Crhsitmas break.Expected to be sellers at the deadline, the Greyhounds may move a veteran or two yet but if their play continues at its current pace, that may change
