College players making the jump

After a busy couple of months, I'm back in action here at Future Greats.

To get back into the swing of things, a quick look at some roster changes around the Ontario Hockey League.

IN recent weeks we've had some players make the jump from NCAA hockey over to the OHL and reports of a player with a commitment making the jump next season.

First, the players that have already made the jump. The big name this far is Kenny Ryan. Ryan started the year at Boston College but joined the Windsor Spitfires earlier this season. Ryan made a smooth adjustment and has chipped in offensively and defensively since joining the Spitfires.

Ryan is a second round pick of the Toronto Maple Leafs.

The Guelph Storm managed to add some depth on the blueline in Sam Lofquist. The Summerset, Wisconsin native was in his sophomore year at Minnesota before joining the team. He missed time with an injury early in the year but was a healthy scratch in the games leading up to his defection.

The most recent newcomer is joining the Plymouth Whalers. In a trade, the Whalers acquired the rights for University of Michigan forward Robbie Czarnik. Not long after the deal, the Los Angeles prospect signed with the Whalers and is expected to play his first game with the team this week.

In other news, reports are surfacing that the Windsor Spitfires will add the services of American-born netminder Jack Campbell. A highly-touted prospect for the 2010 NHL Draft, Campbell was originally verbally committed to the University of Michigan but has reportedly decided to join the Spitfires next winter instead.
